Growing up in a big family, I had four siblings. Not only were there a lot of us, but we were also very different. We had different personalities, interests, aptitudes, and ultimately, different ways of learning. For the longest time, because the way I learned was different than my siblings', I thought it meant that I was dumb. Because the way my brain was wired, I believed that I was somehow sub-par to them. In high school, when we learned about different learning styles, it changed the entire way I looked at myself. I learned that I wasn't stupid -- I just came to learn things differently. And different is never stupid. I hope that when I become a teacher, I will help employ many different learning styles, in hopes of teaching my students that no one is dumb or weird or somehow inadequate just because they come to conclusions differently than others.
